BURLINGTON – Irene E. Maskell, 87, a longtime resident of McKenzie House in Burlington, passed away in Fletcher Allen Health Care on Sept. 27, 2012. She was born in Burlington on July 9, 1925, daughter of Herbert and Edith (Chagnon) Gonyo. Irene had worked as a sales clerk in several local stores, Mammoth Mart, Ames and Woolworth’s. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Howard Plant Post #782. Irene married Ernest Maskell in Burlington in 1949; he predeceased her in 1988. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jacqueline and Ronald LaMarche of Davenport, Fla., Ernest Maskell II of Burlington, Kenneth and Monique Maskell, also of Burlington, and Sandra and John Bartlett of Starksboro; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Herbert and Gertrude Gonyo of Williston, Ruth Shelley of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Pearl Whitehouse of Burlington, Reginald and Martha Gonyo of Milton, and Rosalie and Joseph Genest of St. George; two sisters-in-law, Marion Greenia of Georgia, Vt., and Barbara Gonyo of Davenport, Fla.; brother-in-law, Richard Blow of Williston; 12 grandchildren, including her special bond with Kristen; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Leona Turner, Leon Gonyo, Gloria McGrath, and Bernadette Blow. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, in the Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home, 85 N. Winooski Avenue, Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, with interment to follow St. Mary’s Cemetery in Swanton. Arrangements are by Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Directors.
